to let go
dreamt of having
a bird adorned
with colors i can never tell,
it was such a beauty
that i can’t take
my eyes off him.
he never sing,
but he boasted on
how pretty he was
when he flies.
then he suddenly
flew past me.
leaving me wanting.
i so want to
fly with him..
but then i want to
just stare at him.
his feathers glowed
with his sudden move.
his wings are broad
makes me envious
in his world.
so i made a trap…
and locked him
inside a cage…
he’s no longer free…
and can never again fly.
but i noticed,
the sadness,
the pain,
and the questions
in his eyes.
i turn away,
afraid.
he refused to eat…
so i let him go.
i saw in him once again,
the glint of
joy.
i never owned him,
yet i know he is mine.
letting him go means
i can see him fly.
he flew until i can
no longer see.
in my heart is sadness,
yet with a happy smile i said,
“I’ll be seeing you
once again.”

and now you now why the caged bird sings… freedom is one thing none of us should ever have to know how to live without…….
